Ponceau 4R Food Color is also known by the names of
Cochineal Red A Food Color, Brilliant Scarlet 3R, C.I. Acid Red 18, New Coccine.
Providing support as a synthetic colorant it can be used as food coloring
agent and is made available in form of red AZO dye. It finds suitability in
variety of food products and normally come synthesized from aromatic
hydrocarbons from petroleum.
Its composition includes trisodium 2-hydroxy-1(4-sulfonato-1-naphthylazo)
naphthalene-6,8-disulfonate as well as subsidiary coloring agents that are
used in combination with sodium chloride/sodium sulfate as principal
uncolored component.
